3D Projection Mapping is a multi-projector software framework for projection. Basic idea is to use multiple projectors for a single display. It contains a basic rendering infrastructure, and interactive tools for projector calibration.
3D Projection Mapping technology is used to have projection on any type of objects, irregular shapes or surfaces in to displays. Objects can be of any shape or size. For instance a white cup can be used as a display surface for a projector or a giant building could be mapped as display screen. 3D Projection Mapping software helps in capturing the character of the shape of an object and later animation creates display effects on the surface. 3D Projection mapping is becoming the choice of artists, advertisers, event managers, brand managers, lighting companies and many other requiring to create dynamic displays.
3D projection mapping is nothing like a normal projection or a display through projector. Multimedia projector is only a source of light without any sense of direction. You power on a multimedia projector and next moment you see an image on a screen or wall in a rectangle shape. There is no possible way to guide the projector to throw a light in circular, triangular or any other complicated shape. Projector can not darken the unrequired surface by leaving the glow on only required shape. For instance you place a bottle in front of a projector and wish to have a light only on a bottle, it will not happen since multimedia projector will throw a light in one certain shape without focusing on the shape sitting in front of it. Now 3D Projection Mapping is the technology which will enable the engineers to keep the light on a bottle and no leakage of light will be visible.
